PRIVATE ISLAND COTTAGE
Designed to fit between the clumps of existing trees on a long narrow rock island in Southern Georgian Bay, the Island Cottage uses an updated local vernacular with two elongated cabins stretching the length of the island. A glass link on the main floor completes the ‘H’ shaped plan which frames and edits views of the surrounding shoals and islands and the trees and rock nearby.
Large overhangs provide protection from extreme weather conditions and natural wood soffits extend the interior finishes where they are not affected by weathering.
Despite height restrictions, an upper level lookout room is nestled between the roofs and takes command of the island and surrounding water much like the bridge of a lake freighter.
